How to Get the Perfect Horse Clip – Maximum Shine, Minimum Irritation

Want a beautifully smooth, super-shiny horse clip without leaving your horse's skin feeling irritated?

The secret isn't just in the clipping. It's what you do before, during and afterwards that makes all the difference.

Follow these three simple steps for a beautifully clean, smooth clip and a comfortable, healthy-looking coat.

Step 1: Start With a REALLY Clean Horse
(The Day Before)

The cleaner your horse, the better your clip. It's that simple.

Dirt, grease and scurf trapped in the coat make it harder for clipper blades to glide through the hair.

This can cause three problems:

• Uncomfortable clipping: Blades can drag and pull on the hair, irritating your horse.
• Uneven results: Dirt and grease can contribute to clip lines and a patchy finish.
• Blade wear: Dirty coats create additional friction and can dull your blades faster.

The best preparation? A proper bath.

Ideally, shampoo your horse the day before clipping using our Be a Diamond Shampoo.

Work the shampoo thoroughly into the coat, right down to the skin, to remove as much dirt, grease and scurf as possible.

Rinse well and allow your horse to dry completely.

Can't Give Your Horse a Bath? Hot Cloth Instead!

If bathing isn't practical, a thorough groom followed by a hot cloth is your next best option.

Here's how to hot cloth properly:

1. Fill a small bucket with hot, steamy water. It should be as hot as you can comfortably handle.

2. Add 2-3 pumps of Beautify Oil.

3. Put on your Hot Cloth Gloves, submerge, and wring it out thoroughly.

4. Work firmly through your horse's coat, getting right down to the skin to lift dirt, grease and scurf.

5. Rinse and wring out your gloves regularly, changing the water when necessary.

The key is HOT & STEAMY, not WET!

Step 2: Swap Your Clipper Oil for Beautify (Clipping Day)

Now your horse is beautifully clean and dry, it's time to clip!

For this step, we're making one simple change to your usual routine.

Swap your regular clipper oil for Beautify Oil.

Apply Beautify in the same way you would your usual clipper oil. Keep your blades clean, sharp and correctly lubricated throughout the clip, checking regularly that they aren't becoming too hot. Then simply clip your horse as normal.

Step 3: Finish With a Nourishing Hot Cloth

This is the step you really don't want to miss!

Your horse might look beautifully clipped, but there's still work to do.

Clipping can leave behind tiny loose hairs, scurf and dirt that were previously trapped beneath the coat. All of this can contribute to that uncomfortable, itchy feeling some horses experience after clipping. And remember, your horse's skin has just been exposed to quite a lot of mechanical friction.

So rather than leaving it there, we're going to give the skin one final clean and conditioning treatment.

The Perfect Post-Clipping Hot Cloth

1. First, give your horse a thorough brush to remove loose clipped hair.

2. Fill a small bucket with hot, steamy water.

3. Add 2-3 pumps of Beautify Oil.

4. Put on your Hot Cloth Gloves, submerge, and wring it out thoroughly.

5. Once the cloth is safe against the skin, work it over your horse's body, getting right down to the skin to lift away remaining loose hair, dirt and scurf.

6. Rinse and wring out your gloves regularly, keeping your water clean and hot.

Remember, we want the heat to do the cleaning, not lots of water.

The hot cloth helps lift away the last traces of clipping debris, while Beautify conditions the coat and skin.

There's no need to give your horse another bath.

The Result? A Super-Shiny Clip and Happier Skin!

And that's it!

Three simple steps to the perfect horse clip:

1. THE DAY BEFORE: Shampoo with Be a Diamond, or thoroughly groom and hot cloth with Beautify.

2. CLIPPING DAY: Use Beautify in place of your usual clipper oil, where compatibility has been confirmed.

3. AFTER CLIPPING: Brush away loose hair and finish with a Beautify hot cloth to clean and condition the freshly clipped skin.

The result is a beautifully smooth, super-shiny clip, with less leftover dirt, scurf and loose hair to contribute to post-clipping irritation.

Because the perfect clip shouldn't just look beautiful. Your horse should feel comfortable, too.

A lovely gentle shampoo which cleans very efficiently. Having a palomino with a creamy mane and tail, I prefer not to use shampoo with colour enhancers, Be A Diamond does the job perfectly.

Didn’t think my sweetitch mare could shine any more than she already did just being on the Skin Tonic, then bathed her today in this shampoo and she really does shine like a diamond!! Her coat was soft and her skin looked amazing!! Absolutely fantastic and well worth it.
